The Power of Story: Ethical Approaches to Psychedelic Healing
Location:
Virtual event
Date and time:
March 7, 2024
9:30 AM PT
10:30AM MT · 11:30AM CT · 12:30 ET
Presenter:
DR. ALYA AHMAD MD, FAAP
Description:
The existing healthcare paradigm needs a fundamental shift. Presently, medical and mental health care often overlooks a patient’s personal struggles and narrative, failing to connect these stories with the manifestation of chronic medical and treatment-resistant mental health conditions. Incorporating psychedelic-assisted therapy alongside a blend of natural and conventional treatments could serve as a potent approach to address the interconnected aspects of the mind, body, and soul affected by trauma. Nevertheless, ethical considerations surrounding the delivery and application of this treatment abound with questions, possibilities, and caution.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain psychedelic ethical challenges
- Discuss the art of narrative medicine and ethics in healing with ketamine
- Investigate how narrative medicine applies to disease
- Explain why we need to talk about ethics with integrative and psychedelic therapies
- Explain narrative medicine and the ethics of caring in practice
